Q. Am I too old to try BJJ?
A. Satori BJJ Dublin caters for all ages, from as young as 4 or 5 to as old as 60 or 70. Everyone develops at their own rate. The saying ‘better late than never’ truly applies to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) is one of the worlds most effective martial arts, evident from early cage fighting when one fighting style was pitted against another. The evidence shows all effective martial arts eg boxing, muay thai kickboxing, wrestling and of course BJJ follow similar training methods. This is that participants are educated in the technical aspects of the art and then allowed to use these on a progressively resisting partner. This leaves no room for inefficiency, the technique either works on a resisting opponent or is binned. Participants can further pressure test their skills outside of normal classes during competition if they wish.
Some martial arts follow this proven system but most don’t. I found BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) classes in Dublin to be particularly enjoyable due to the depth of technique with BJJ regularly referred to as ‘the game of human chess’. Jiu Jitsu is a grappling art so you don’t get punched repeatedly in the face 🙂 We can fight at very close to 100% without risking injury, unlike in combat sports that involve striking. Joint locks and chokes are used in a technical manner, so everybody has the chance to ‘tapout’ when in danger.
